26 Feb Powering the Valley’s Future: Leaders Unite at 3rd Annual Our Region | Our Future Summit

In a powerful display of regional unity and forward-thinking leadership, The Valley Economic Alliance hosted its 3rd Annual Our Region | Our Future Summit on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the Orchard Conference Center at California State University, Northridge. The gathering carried heightened urgency as the region continues to recover from the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, emphasizing the power of collaboration in rebuilding stronger, more resilient communities.
Bringing together more than 250 influential leaders from government, corporate, business, healthcare, manufacturing, education and community, the Summit served as a vital forum for shaping the future of the San Fernando Valley. The event opened with an insightful presentation on overcoming regulatory challenges and accelerating recovery efforts, followed by a Salute to Public Safety Heroes, recognizing the lifesaving efforts of the LAPD and LAFD Operations Valley Bureaus during the wildfires.
Their dedication highlighted the importance of preparedness, emergency response, and community resilience. Accepting the Heroes Awards on behalf of their departments were Deputy Chief Marla Ciuffetelli (LAPD), Commander Elaine Morales (LAPD), Deputy Chief Jaime Moore (LAFD), Assistant Chief Eric Talamantes (LAFD), and Captain Luis Ochoa (LAFD).
A highlight of the Summit was an engaging fireside chat with Lieutenant Governor of California Eleni Kounalakis. Moderated by Fred Gaines, The Alliance’s Immediate Past Board Chair, the conversation explored the role of regional collaboration and public-private partnerships in driving long-term economic growth. The Lieutenant Governor underscored the necessity of economic recovery and sustainability in the wake of natural disasters.
“The challenges we face require bold leadership and collective action,” said Gaines. “By bringing together state, regional, and local leaders, The Alliance continues to foster critical relationships that drive meaningful progress. When we work toward a common goal, we create lasting benefits for businesses, residents, and the entire Valley.”
California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, CPA, delivered a compelling keynote address, outlining investment opportunities to support infrastructure development and financial empowerment in the San Fernando Valley. Her remarks emphasized the Valley’s pivotal role in shaping California’s broader economic progress.
A special presentation by the Los Angeles Rams showcased the team’s ongoing real estate initiatives and contributions to the Valley’s economic and cultural vibrancy, offering a model for how professional sports organizations can foster community development and innovation.

Among the Summit’s most anticipated discussions was the “Cities at a Crossroads: Community Development Panel,” where municipal leaders from Burbank, Calabasas, Glendale, Los Angeles, and San Fernando provided exclusive insights. The panel explored policies and initiatives driving sustainable urban growth, economic opportunity, and the transformation of neighborhoods into thriving commercial and residential hubs.
“This Summit reflects the collective leadership and determination that define the San Fernando Valley,” said Sonya Kay Blake, President and CEO of The Valley Economic Alliance. “As we navigate recovery and growth, The Alliance remains committed to fostering strong partnerships that drive innovation, inclusivity, and economic resilience.”
“The unity we witnessed today—among leaders, first responders, and the broader community—demonstrates the Valley’s spirit of resilience. The Alliance will continue to champion initiatives that ensure safety, stability, and long-term prosperity for all who call this region home,” said Greg Martayan, Vice President of External Affairs of The Valley Economic Alliance.
With its growing influence, the Our Region | Our Future Summit has solidified itself as a premier event for regional leadership and economic development. The success of this year’s event was made possible through the generous support of esteemed partners, including CSUN David Nazarian College of Business and Economics, Van Nuys Airport, Kaiser Permanente, Tierra Del Sol Foundation, UCLA Health, and supporter Wells Fargo Home Lending.
