How long have you been volunteering in the community?

I have been volunteering in the community for 23 years.

How long have you been volunteering for The Valley Economic Alliance?

I have been volunteering for The Valley Economic Alliance (TVEA) for 8 years.

Tell us a little about yourself.

My current position is working in Community Relations for California Lutheran University (CLU). I received my Bachelor of Arts from The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Master of Business Administration from California Lutheran University.

My past positions include Vice President of a global medical marketing firm and the Director of Health Promotion and Health Improvements programs for the managed health care company, Health Net. I served as the 2002-2003 Chairman of the Board for the Western States Affiliate and as a member of the National Board of Directors of the American Heart Association. In 2006 I was named Volunteer of the Year for the Western States Affiliate. I have been a board member since 1999 for the Los Angeles Country Public Health Department in the Office of Women’s Health.

Since the early 1990s, I have been a chair or committee member of numerous organizations organizing special events or fundraisers for schools and non-profits. I am currently involved with a number of chamber of commerce organizations in the San Fernando Valley and Ventura County and am the Executive Director of the CLU Community Leaders Association.

As a former manager of training and development, I have a passion for encouraging people of all ages to learn, grow and work through any obstacles.  I believe that through positive daily actions and even small acts of kindness that we are all capable of positively touching lives and making a difference in bettering our communities.

What is one of your Passion Projects that you are working on?

C.I.T.Y. is a high school summer internship program organized through a partnership between the City of Thousand Oaks, CLU, Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, Conejo Valley Unified School District, and Conejo Youth Employment Services. The goal of the collaboration is to match student skills and interests to a meaningful summer internship opportunity with a local organization. This program supports the Pathways Program in the schools and gives students hands-on experience and exploration of career paths.
