A Historic Evening: Welcoming LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell to the San Fernando Valley

On the evening of Monday, November 18, 2024, The Valley Economic Alliance hosted its highly anticipated Welcome Reception in honor of newly confirmed Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell, the 59th Chief of the LAPD. The event, held at the prestigious Encino Banquet and Gardens, drew over 400 guests, highlighting the profound importance of the occasion.

The Alliance proudly partnered with the LAPD Operations Valley Bureau (OVB) to make this historic event possible. Representatives from all San Fernando Valley divisions, including area commanding officers and patrol captains, were in attendance. On behalf of LAPD OVB, Commander Elaine Morales welcomed Chief McDonnell to the Valley, while Commander John Shah introduced regional command officers to the assembled guests.

The evening served as an official welcome for Chief McDonnell and a celebration of his unwavering commitment to public safety and community well-being. Alliance Board Chair Fred Gaines expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This remarkable evening reflects our shared commitment to creating a safer, stronger San Fernando Valley. Chief McDonnell’s leadership and vision resonate deeply with the values of collaboration and progress The Alliance champions.”

Alliance President and CEO Sonya Kay Blake also addressed attendees, highlighting the critical role of partnership in advancing the region: “The Alliance is honored to welcome Chief McDonnell to the Valley and celebrate this milestone. Together, with leaders across sectors, we are building a community where safety, innovation, and opportunity flourish hand in hand.”

Alliance Vice President of External Affairs Greg Martayan served as the evening’s Master of Ceremony. He stated, “Chief McDonnell’s appointment marks a pivotal moment for the City of Los Angeles. His leadership will be instrumental in ensuring safer streets and business corridors, while strengthening the vital partnerships between public safety, our residents, business owners, and local institutions.”
