The Valley Economic Alliance Releases Energy & Environmental Sustainability Roadmap for the San Fernando Valley

The Valley Economic Alliance has announced the release of Strategies for a Greener Valley: Energy & Environmental Sustainability Roadmap for the San Fernando Valley Region, a new report that positions sustainability as a core driver of long-term economic development and regional competitiveness.

How the Valley manages energy, infrastructure, transportation, and environmental risk is directly tied to its ability to grow, attract investment, and expand economic opportunity. The Roadmap provides a clear, data-driven framework to help align economic growth, climate resilience, and equity across the region.

Developed in conjunction with the CSUN Institute for Sustainability and informed by the leadership of cities across the region—including Burbank, Calabasas, Glendale, Los Angeles, and San Fernando—the Roadmap presents a comprehensive snapshot of current conditions and charts a practical path forward with clear goals for action.

The Roadmap focuses on six priority areas critical to the Valley’s long-term competitiveness and quality of life:

• Clean & Reliable Energy

• Climate Resilience & Risk Reduction

• Sustainable Transportation & Mobility

• Green Buildings & Infrastructure

• Workforce & Economic Opportunity

• Equity & Community Health

Climate-related risks—including drought, extreme heat, wildfires, and poor air quality—are already affecting the regional economy by increasing costs, disrupting supply chains, and placing new demands on infrastructure and public health. At the same time, sustainability represents a significant opportunity to strengthen regional competitiveness, attract investment, support job creation, and ensure that all communities benefit from a cleaner, more resilient economy.

The Roadmap is intended to serve as a practical guide for business, civic, and community leaders committed to shaping a more sustainable and prosperous San Fernando Valley.
