E. Kenn Phillips is the New CEO & President of The Valley Economic Alliance

E. Kenn Phillips is the President and CEO of The Valley Economic Alliance, (TVEA) serving the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles County and its 5-city partners (Burbank, Calabasas, Glendale, Los Angeles and the San Fernando). The Alliance elevates the economic vitality and stability of the region. Through the Alliance’s initiatives, businesses and organizations benefit from the many economic development programs including business assistance, workforce development and marketing.

Kenn oversees the Alliance’s operations and programs supporting the organization’s mission. He works directly with city partners, strategic partners and investors to help propel and improve the economic vitality, quality of education and help position the region as a center for strategic business resources.

Kenn’s first initiative as President is the Valley Visionaries campaign. The Alliance will recruit 100 Valley Visionaries; leaders who provide the vision, the ideas and the muscle to get things done, in the next 100 days to identify solutions to the largest issues that affect the state and our community. “Honor a Hero-Hire a Vet” Job & Resource Fair

The Valley Economic Alliance along with the California Employment Development Department (EDD) hosted the 9th Annual Sold Out “Honor a Hero-Hire a Vet” Veteran Job Fair on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel in Woodland Hills.

A special ribbon cutting ceremony opened doors to over 1,500 job seekers, 750 of whom were returning Veterans, Reservists and National Guard members.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet face to face with more than 80 employers from a wide assortment of industries and over 20 job and training organizations. Some of the employers interviewed candidates on the spot, providing veterans the opportunity to fill more than 1,200 confirmed job openings. Industries including manufacturing, retail, healthcare, banking, construction and engineering also provided veterans with the tools, resources and support they need to help them with their job search. Congratulations to Martin M. Cooper Recipient of the 2014 Fernando Award

Martin M. Cooper, Board Member of the Valley Economic Alliance, was honored at the 56th Annual Fernando Awards & Gala Dinner on October 18, 2014. Cooper was awarded for his dedication to civic, philanthropic, and community volunteerism in the San Fernando Valley.

He is the founder of Cooper Communications, Inc., a marketing and public relations consultancy that represents more than 200 corporate, non-profit, healthcare, and governmental clients. Cooper has served in many capacities with the Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley, including Chairman, Vice Chairman, Marketing Committee, Board Governance Committee and Strategic Planning Committee. He created the Cooper Reading Challenge, a program designed to encourage children to love and value reading books. Cooper’s firm has provided communications services to the San Fernando Council of the Girl Scouts of America, New Horizons, OneGeneration, the HELP Group, Hand in Hand Family, and the Child Development Center.

Gina Barro joins TVEA’s Board of Governors

The Valley Economic Alliance welcomes Gina Barro to our Board of Governors! Gina is Business Development Manager in the Trade Development Division at the Port of Long Beach.

Gina is responsible for promoting the Port’s facilities and services to current and prospective containerized cargo export customers and for the promotion of international trade and related economic development activities. She also manages the Port’s foreign trade zone program and developing a variety of export-based learning seminars and training programs, including the “Go Global” Trade Education Program.
