Valley Hackathon

Valley Hackathon

On Friday, November 13th, students from Glendale Community College, John Burroughs High School, Crescenta Valley High School and High Tech LA presented their ideas to attract and expand technology and entertainment businesses to the City of Glendale at the Valley Hackathon, held in Glendale Community College’s Library.

Teams presented their final concepts to a professional panel of judges that included City of Glendale Councilmember Zareh Sinanyan; Adam Velardo, Infrastructure Technology Manager with event sponsor Southern California Gas Company; Denis Wilson, President/Principal Consultant with Microsoft partner DWP Information Architects; Toby Ball, Vice President of Strategic Innovation with DVV Technology Solutions; and Cort Baker with General Networks, Inc.

The first place winners, “Glendale Business Associates,” received copies of Microsoft Office Pro sponsored by DWP Information Architects and the opportunity to present their idea during an information technology conference. Team “Look” received second place, and team “Yoke” received third.

“Teams exhibited creative ideas, enthusiasm and excitement for their work. The mixed teams of high school and college students provided a wonderful opportunity for team building and students discovering talent and skill sets among the team members. They learned about team work, research, marketing, economic development, and website and application design,” said Emma Sanchez, Glendale Community College.
